Ahaley Dichen Choling Gonpa is situated just above Namchi town in South Sikkim. In 1941, a Tamang lama called GESHELA SANGEY LAMA from Namchi went to Gyalmo in Nepal, thereafter to Tibet in pursuit of higher religious education and spent many years learning Buddhism under highly learned lamas and rinpoches. On his return to his native place, he begins to put his acquired knowledge into practice. He built a meditation hut (TSHAM KHANG) on the hillock near a cremation ground in 1952. It was gradually developed into a Gonpa.
